This year we wanted to give everyone at my daughter's daycare a Christmas gift without breaking the bank. We found out that there was a dollar tree by us and wanted to go by for a visit to check it out since we’ve never been to one before.
We lived in the city and there was a dollar general near us but they sold things over a dollar. Some items in there were up to $5 so we never bothered shopping there. We were blown away at dollar tree though. There were some things in there where we would both stop and say “This can’t be just a dollar!"
Now, this store is both a blessing and a curse. Yes, everything in there is just a dollar, but sometimes you end up leaving there with a bunch of stuff and $20 less then you came in with! We wanted to be frugal with our Christmas shopping so we came up with a plan before we shopped.
We knew we wanted to give them something cute, but not just food. My wife found these cute snowmen mugs and we decided they’d be the perfect gift for her teachers, and they were a decent size too (20oz)!
My daughter has 12 teachers so we needed 12 mugs. Inside the mugs we put sparkly tissue paper, a hot chocolate packet, and a candy cane .
Here is the break down of prices:
Dollar Tree:
Christmas mug: $1
Hot chocolate packet (6 in a pack): $1
Tissue paper (20 sheets in a pack): $1
Candy Canes (12 canes in a pack): $1
Hot chocolate packet (6 in a pack): $1
Tissue paper (20 sheets in a pack): $1
Candy Canes (12 canes in a pack): $1
Each present cost about $1.38 per mug. Now to make this fun, let’s see how much the same gift would be at Target, since we love shopping there too.
Target:
Christmas Mug: $5
Hot Chocolate packets (8 pack): $2
Tissue Paper (8 sheets in a pack): $1.29
Candy Canes (12 canes in a pack): $1.49
Hot Chocolate packets (8 pack): $2
Tissue Paper (8 sheets in a pack): $1.29
Candy Canes (12 canes in a pack): $1.49
Each present would of cost us $5.53 per mug!
I hope this gives you some ideas on cute gifts for the people who watch over your little one! Or cheap gifts you can give to your family! What frugal gifts do you give your family or teachers? Tweet me @DitchinDebt, i’d love to know!
